Yes. We offer framing in wood, metal, or fiber on request.

A universe mapped in paint. A palace built for enlightenment.

A mandala is not merely a pattern — it is a sacred blueprint. In Tibetan Buddhist tradition, the mandala represents the enlightened mind made visible: a perfect, symmetrical universe where wisdom and compassion reside at the centre, protected by layers of sacred architecture, and surrounded by the entire cosmos of spiritual practice.

This extraordinary vintage Thangka depicts the Hevajra Mandala — one of the most important meditation mandalas in Vajrayana Buddhism. At its heart, the multi-armed Hevajra embraces his consort Nairatmya in sacred union, symbolising the inseparability of wisdom and compassion, emptiness and bliss. They stand at the centre of an eight-petalled lotus, with attendant deities occupying each petal — together forming the innermost circle of the mandala.

This inner sanctum is enclosed within the mandala palace — a square structure with elaborate gateways opening to the four cardinal directions, representing the entry points to enlightenment. Each gate is richly detailed with architectural elements drawn from the tradition of celestial palace design. Beyond the palace, concentric rings of protection — vajra fences, flame circles, and lotus barriers — guard the sacred space from delusion and negativity.
The outer border is a cosmos of its own. Dozens of figures populate this space — meditating practitioners, seated Buddhas, Bodhisattvas in various mudras, scenes of teaching and offering, and narrative episodes from the Buddhist path. A row of enlightened figures along the bottom grounds the composition in the lineage of awakened masters.

The density of detail in this painting is staggering. Every square centimetre contains meaning. It is the kind of artwork you live with for years and never finish discovering.

Who this artwork is for:
∙ Practitioners of Tibetan Buddhism, particularly those working with mandala meditation or Hevajra sadhana
∙ Collectors of rare Himalayan and Asian sacred art
∙ Anyone fascinated by sacred geometry and the visual architecture of spiritual traditions
∙ Meditation rooms, yoga studios, and contemplative spaces
∙ Interior spaces that call for deeply layered, intellectually rich art

Understanding the mandala:
The mandala is traditionally used as a meditation tool — the practitioner mentally enters through one of the four gates, progresses through the layers of the palace, and arrives at the enlightened centre. Displaying a mandala Thangka in your space is believed to radiate the same sacred geometry outward, creating a field of protection and spiritual harmony in the room.

About this artwork:
