The divine cowherd returns to the forest and every cow turns to follow.

This traditional Gopashtami Pichwai captures one of the most tender moments in Krishna’s story the day he was first entrusted with the care of Vrindavan’s cows. It is a celebration of the bond between the divine and nature, between protector and protected, between Krishna and the beings who loved him most simply.

At the centre, blue-skinned Krishna stands beneath a magnificent golden tree its dense, rounded canopy filling the upper half of the composition like a living crown. Dozens of golden-yellow sacred cows, each bearing Krishna’s red hand-prints, press close to him in a continuous herd that stretches across the entire painting. Two Rajasthani cowherds in traditional attire stand at either end, their raised hands gently guiding the procession.
Below, a golden lotus pond panel — intricately painted with blooming lotuses, swimming birds, and aquatic life — anchors the scene in the sacred landscape of Vrindavan.

The ornate floral border in gold on dark green frames the entire composition with the refinement of a Nathdwara masterwork.

The green-and-gold palette of this Pichwai is deeply traditional and profoundly calming. Green represents nature, growth, and the pastoral world of Vrindavan. Gold represents the divine, the sacred, and the abundant. Together they create a colour harmony that brings both richness and peace to any wall.

Why this piece is special:
∙ Classic Gopashtami composition in the most traditional Nathdwara green-and-gold palette
∙ The massive golden tree creates a powerful focal point and sense of shelter
∙ Dozens of individually painted cows, each with Krishna’s red hand-prints
∙ Golden lotus pond border adds a layer of exquisite detail
∙ Ornate floral border in the finest Nathdwara tradition
∙ Deep green background brings calm, richness, and natural energy to any room

Vastu significance:
This piece is deeply auspicious on multiple levels. Krishna as the divine protector invites grace and safety. Sacred cows attract prosperity and abundance. The golden tree represents growth and shelter. The lotus pond symbolises purity. The green palette promotes health, renewal, and harmony. Place on the east or north wall of your living room, pooja room, or office.
