FAQ

What makes Nakhrro prints different?

They’re not posters. These are archival pigment prints on museum-grade paper or canvas.

Will I see brushstroke detail?

Yes. Our scans capture every nuance of the original hand-painted work.

Paper or canvas—which one should I pick?

Paper is smooth and matte. Canvas has texture and depth. Both are archival.

How long will it last?

With proper care, 80–100 years. Trusted by museums worldwide.

Is framing available?

Yes. We offer framing in wood, metal, or fiber on request.

Not a painting — a needle’s masterpiece, preserved on canvas and paper.

This extraordinary vintage artwork is a hand-embroidered textile from the Himalayan foothills — an entire mythological world stitched into cloth using a unique double-satin stitch technique that makes both sides of the fabric identical. These textiles were created as ceremonial covers, gifts between royalty, and offerings to temples — each one taking months or even years to complete.

The composition weaves together multiple traditions. The central darbar scene echoes Mughal court painting — figures seated in council on a decorated carpet, surrounded by attendants. To the left, gopis dance in their colourful ghagras, their movements captured in the embroiderer’s flowing stitches. To the right, cowherds tend their cattle — red, white, and brown cows graze alongside deer and goats, while Krishna plays his flute beneath the trees. The abundant floral motifs and paisley border draw from Mughal textile design, while the pastoral Krishna scenes with gopis and cows are rooted in the Pahari hill painting tradition of the Himalayas.

The landscape is alive with the natural world. Tigers prowl through flowering gardens. An elephant stands majestically among the trees. Peacocks display their plumage. Snakes wind through the undergrowth. Cypress trees and flowering bushes dot the scenery. Every element is stitched with a folk art charm that is simultaneously naive and deeply sophisticated.

The border is a celebration in itself — a continuous garland of paisley motifs, Mughal flowers, leaves, and curling vines in vibrant reds, blues, greens, and golds, framing the central narrative like an ornamental garden.

This museum-grade archival print reproduces the embroidered original with extraordinary fidelity — capturing the texture of individual stitches, the subtle variations in thread colour, and the warm, aged quality of the cotton ground.

Why this piece is extraordinary:
• Combines Mughal floral design, Krishna darbar scenes, and Himalayan folk art in a single composition
• The embroidered texture, captured in the archival print, gives it a quality no painting can replicate
• Rich narrative content — darbar, dance, Krishna leela, wildlife, all woven together
• Vibrant colour palette remains remarkably fresh despite the textile’s age
• A true conversation starter — guests will be fascinated by both the image and the story behind it
• Appeals to folk art lovers, textile collectors, Mughal art enthusiasts, and Krishna devotees alike
• Rare art form that most people have never encountered

Vastu significance:
This artwork is a complete ecosystem of auspicious symbols — cows for prosperity, peacocks for beauty and protection, elephants for wisdom and strength, flowering trees for growth, and Krishna’s presence for divine grace. The darbar scene represents order, authority, and harmony. Place in living rooms, dining areas, or hallways.
