Royal Elephant Procession gallery wall set arranged above a console

One Large Artwork or a Gallery Wall? How to Choose

Choose one large artwork when you want a single focal point. Choose a gallery wall when you want to bring several related works together. A pair sits comfortably between the two. The deciding factors are the space above your furniture, how much detail is already in the room, and the distance from which you will see the art.

Before deciding how many pieces to buy, decide how much wall the complete arrangement should occupy. Four small prints can still look undersized; one well-proportioned work can be enough.

Which arrangement suits your room?

  • One artwork: a clear centre of attention above a sofa, console or bed; useful when the room already has patterned textiles, shelves or several finishes.
  • A coordinated pair: balance and repetition with fewer pieces; useful above a console or in a room where you want a simple, ordered arrangement.
  • A gallery wall: several images to explore, with flexibility in the layout; useful for related subjects, a larger collection or a wall seen at close range.

These are starting points, not rules. A tightly arranged grid can feel calm, and a single intricate painting can have plenty of visual energy.

Choose one artwork for a clear focal point

The Royal Elephant Battle Scene has enough activity within the composition to hold attention on its own. Its warm reds and ochres give you colours to pick up in a cushion or textile without matching the entire room. Let the composition remain the main point of interest and keep the surrounding wall simple.

This approach suits a room where you want to notice the artwork as you enter. Choose the work for its subject and composition first, then test the available sizes against your wall. A detailed miniature-art reproduction rewards a closer look; its presence from across the room will also depend on its overall colour and scale.

Choose a gallery wall for a collection of related works

The Royal Elephant Procession set of four offers a different effect: separate scenes with a shared subject. A two-by-two arrangement gives the four frames a clear outer outline. A single row spreads them across a wider space, but needs more horizontal room.

For a restrained result, repeat the frame finish and keep the spacing consistent. If the artworks vary in colour or detail, those repeated elements help the arrangement feel connected. You do not need to repeat every colour from the prints elsewhere in the room.

Check the available print sizes before copying a layout. The illustration shows a styling idea; it is not a measurement template for your selected set.

A pair offers a simpler arrangement

The Inverse Blue & White Florals set of two uses related botanical designs in reversed colours. It is a good option if you like repetition but want fewer frames. The current listing specifies archival giclée prints on canvas with wooden frames.

Try the pair side by side over a console. Test the complete framed width and the space between the pieces before ordering. Do not assume the listed artwork dimensions are the outside dimensions of the finished frames.

How to measure a single artwork or gallery wall

  1. Measure the usable wall. Note the furniture width, nearby windows, switches, lamps and the height available above the furniture.
  2. Mark the complete outline. Use paper templates matching the outside dimensions of the frames. For a gallery, include every gap.
  3. View it from where you actually sit or stand. Check from the doorway and from the sofa or dining table. Leave enough clearance for heads, lamps and objects on a console.
  4. Confirm the finished size. Check the selected artwork, frame and any mount dimensions before placing your order.

As an initial spacing test, try 2–3 inches between frames, then adjust for the frame size and the room. Framebridge also recommends this range for a consistent gallery layout. It is a starting point rather than a requirement.

Worked example: four frames that each measure 16 inches wide by 20 inches high on the outside, arranged in two rows of two with a 2-inch gap, occupy 34 inches wide by 42 inches high. That is two frame widths plus one gap, and two frame heights plus one gap. These are example frame dimensions, not the dimensions of a Nakhrro product.

On a 60-inch-wide console, that 34-inch arrangement leaves 13 inches on each side when centred. Tape out the outline to decide whether that feels right in your room. If it feels too small, compare larger frames or a different layout before increasing the gaps.

Three mistakes to avoid

  • Measuring only the prints. Frame widths, mounts where used, and gaps all contribute to the finished arrangement.
  • Spreading small artworks too far apart. Extra-wide gaps can make a coordinated set feel disconnected.
  • Choosing from a room image alone. Use mockups for styling inspiration and the product listing for the artwork, materials and available options.

Before you order

Confirm how many prints the listing includes, the dimensions of each piece, and whether your selected option is paper or canvas, framed or unframed. The three examples in this guide are reproduction prints; they should not be confused with hand-painted originals.

For one focal work, explore all museum-grade art prints. For a coordinated arrangement, browse Gallery Wall Sets and compare the total framed size with your paper template.
